Creating and Publishing a Page – Video & Article

Learn how to use the standard editor to create and publish a new, blank page.

Note that the layout settings mentioned in the video may not apply to every theme. Divi and Enfold users, for instance, often have and use a different layout. Also note that creating a new page does not automatically add it to a menu. All navigation menus are handled manually under Appearance –> Menus. See our navigation menu tutorial for more details.

In this article, we’re going to show you how to create and publish a new page using the standard editor.

  1. Log into your site.
  2. On the back-end, on the left-hand side of your screen in the admin sidebar, hover over Pages and then press ‘Add New.’
  3. Give your page a title.
  4. Select the options for publishing your page – all of these are optional:
    1. Set the Status of your page before you publish – Draft or Pending Review (each used before the page is available to the public).
    2. Set the Visibility
      1. Public – publicly accessible
      2. Password protected
      3. Private – only accessible by logged in users with the roles of Admin or Editor
    3. You can also choose to schedule your page by clicking on Edit next to Publish.
    4. Set the Page Attributes. Here, you can set a Parent page, which helps organize your content on the back-end.
    5. On some themes, you’ll be able to select a page layout. Typically, the default layout is set in the Theme Customizer, but you can change a single page here.
    6. Set the Featured image – this may applicable for themes or if you’ll be sharing the page on social media.
  5. Once you’re ready to publish your page, press Publish. (Note that if you want to keep your page as a draft, click on Save Draft and do not hit the Publish button).
  6. A little notification at the top will say that your page has been published, and you can click that link to view your page.
