How to Create a Podcast – Video

Learn how to create a podcast for your ministry using a Worship Times website. We walk you through the steps of how to get your mp3 added to the iTunes store as well as other RSS feeds.

  • Record your podcast, process and edit it into a final mp3 file.
  • From your dashboard, click on Publications to edit a publication that you’ve already created or add a new publication.
    • For a new publication give it a title.
    • Add a description – this is what iTunes and the like is going to use to describe what this podcast is.
    • Add the publication date.
    • Add the MP3 – we recommend getting an Amazon S3 account or some other place to host these MP3s, so they the larger files don’t slow down your website and eat up your space quota. Amazon S3 is a cheaper and more efficient way to do that. Once uploaded there, copy the file URL and paste that in the mp3 field in your publication.
    • Check this box that says, “Add to my Podcast.”
    • Add the size in bytes (required by iTunes).
    • Add the duration.
    • Add any keywords that you want iTunes or other search engines to use.
    • Add a Publication Types to organize publications on your website.
    • Add an Author.
    • Save.
  • Hover over Publications in your left-hand admin sidebar and click on Podcast Settings.
    • Fill out the general podcast information (this is just general information that you only need to fill out once) – add the title of your podcast, a copyright message, a subtitle, a summary/description of your podcast, the podcast owner’s name and email, and an image for your podcast. For the image, paste in a URL from your Media Library.
    • Save
  • Next to the URL, check and validate your podcast feed. It should be successful as long as you filled out all of the fields.
  • Once you have a validated feed, submit that feed URL to iTunes. You only have to do this once.
  • Click the submit your podcast to iTunes link; you must have iTunes installed. It’s going to ask you to sign into your iTunes account, and it’s going to take you through the steps to submit your podcast.
  • Once you’ve done that, it takes a couple of days to get the feed approved, but then you should be all good to go. Once approved, every time you add a new publication and check that box that says, “Add to my Podcast,” it’s going to automatically add that for you on iTunes.
