Embed a Published Google Doc
If you do not see Google Docs when you click on the Add Media button, contact Worship Times at support@worshiptimes.org to activate the WT Media Embeds for you
Before proceeding, please read through our blog post on the pros and cons of using Google Drive as the primary hub for your documents.
Also note that the following instructions are for published Google Docs. The below process is NOT a method of embedding a shared link to a Google Drive file.
- Publish a Google Doc – this creates a published version of the document. Note that changes to the original document are NOT immediately reflected in the embedded version, but they will appear eventually. This is not a live version of your document, but more like a synced copy.
- File –> Share –> Publish to Web –> Link
- Publish content and settings –
- Do NOT restrict access
- IMPORTANT: Make sure to select “Automatically republish when changes are made.”
- Start Publishing
- Example published link = https://docs.google.com/document/d/e/2PACX-1vREpa1y-pGsmPb2plWHsWEHTq8McIUaXWZeV4rbJ0YsqqOk1cbZysDdQfRyKqRKTBCI2GEQlDTkWd_b/pub.
- In that example, the ID = 2PACX-1vREpa1y-pGsmPb2plWHsWEHTq8McIUaXWZeV4rbJ0YsqqOk1cbZysDdQfRyKqRKTBCI2GEQlDTkWd_b, and that is what you’d enter into the Google Doc ID field on the website (see below).
- On your website, edit a page
- In the classic WordPress editor or any text block where you see an “Add Media” button immediately above the text editor, click on Add Media
-
- Select Google Docs
-
- Paste in the ID of your Google Doc (see above for sample link and how to find the ID within that link).
- Adjust the width and height as desired
- Insert Your Google Doc
