Divi’s Theme Builder – How to Edit Your Global Header & Footer – Article

Some Divi sites use a global header and footer instead of the default header and/or widget/block-based footer.

Screenshot of the Divi Theme Builder interface in WordPress, showing options for global header, body, and footer templates.

  1. From your dashboard, hover over Divi and click on Theme Builder.
  2. If you see neon green sections, your site is using a global header and/or footer.
  3. To edit, click on the edit/pencil icon – this takes you to Divi’s visual editor.
  4. Before making any major changes, make sure to save the header/footer as a layout. See https://learning.worshiptimes.org/wt-guide/saving-a-page-template-layout-in-divi-video/.
  5. Edit the header and/or footer just like you would any other page in Divi.
  6. Save

If you are creating a global header or footer for the first time, you must Save, then click the X in the top-right corner to exit out, then Save Changes on the Theme Builder page before you’ll see your new header/footer.

Things to note:

  • Neon green always means global. When editing, if you see anything that is neon green, it’s a global element, and ANY change to it will affect every single location where that element appears.
  • There may be things other than a global header or footer in your Theme Builder. Often, these function as templates for posts or events. Please exercise caution before editing these templates and ALWAYS save as a layout before editing – see https://learning.worshiptimes.org/wt-guide/saving-a-page-template-layout-in-divi-video/.
