Creating an Event – The Events Calendar – Video & Article

Learn how to add a new event to your website and view it on your monthly calendar.

Learn how to create an event and add it to your website with our event system called The Events Calendar. (Note that older sites use the Events Manager plug-in).

  • Once logged in to your site, you have two options to get to the screen to be able to start adding your new event. In the top, black admin bar, you can hover over Events and then select “Add Events.” Or from your dashboard, in the left-hand admin sidebar, you can hover over Events and click on “Add New.”
  • Enter a title for your event
  • If you’d like, add a description of your event in the main editor. IMPORTANT FOR DIVI USERS: do NOT use the Divi editor on recurring events. There is a known bug resulting in the inability to save the event or save any changes using the Divi editor. The event calendar developers have it on their radar, but there is no ETA on a fix at this time.
  • Add the details about your event below the main editor.
    • Select a time and date for your event.
    • Create a recurring event if necessary, or an event that repeats on a regular interval.
    • Set the location for your event.
    • Make sure that the show map and show map link options are enabled.
    • Add an organizer as needed. An organizer would be something similar to an event sponsor, or if another partner is working with you to put on this event. Typically, this area is left blank.
    • Enter the events’ website if it has one. If your event is taking place at another location and maybe they have a website of their own, you could link that here.
    • Enter in any costs associated with your event.
  • On the right-hand side of the editing page, select an event category or categories. You will want to categorize every single event that you create. There is really no limitation to the number of categories you can use. And honestly, the more categories you have, the easier it’s going to be to be able to list certain events in different lists or monthly calendar views across your website.
  • Set a featured image. Your featured images for events should be the exact same size.
  • Publish the event.
