Comments – Article

Moderation

From your dashboard, click on Comments in the left-hand menu to see all of your comments. From there, you can can approve, delete, mark as spam, etc.

Spam

If a comment comes in and is spam, the best thing you can do is “Mark as spam” in Comments. However, if you’d like WordPress to automatically trash specific things, you can do so by hovering over Settings and clicking on Discussion then scrolling down to “Disallowed Comment Keys.” Use with caution! (Smaller words that are a part of a larger word will also be trashed – ex. “press” will also trash any comment containing the word “WordPress”).

Turn Off Comments for New Posts, Pages, etc.

  • From your dashboard, hover over Settings in the left-hand menu and click on Discussion.
  • Uncheck “Allow people to submit comments on new posts.”

Note that doing the above only turns off the comments on “new” items, not on previously created posts, pages, etc.

Turn Off Comments on Previously Published Posts, Pages, etc.

  • From your dashboard, in the left-hand menu, click on the post type for which you would like to turn off comments (example – Posts, Pages, etc).
  • In the table of items, check the box next to “Title” to bulk select all of the items on that page.
The image shows a WordPress admin page listing various website pages, including drafts and published titles, with navigation options on the left sidebar.
  • In the “Bulk actions” drop-down menu, select Edit and click on Apply.
  • Next to Comments, select “Do now allow” from the drop-down.
  • Click on Update.
  • Repeat for every page of items if you have more than one page’s worth (look in the upper, right-hand corner of the table for pagination).
