Adding Content and Media to Pages or Posts – Video
Learn how to add text, images, and other forms of content such as videos, staff lists, and more to your pages and posts using the standard editor.
Note that not all themes have all of the buttons/icons mentioned here (Add Media, Members Only, Maps, Opening Hours, etc). If you don’t see an option but would like to know more, please email us at support@worshiptimes.org or submit a support ticket.
- Once you’re logged in to your site, click on Pages in the left admin sidebar.
- Click on edit under the page you would like to begin editing.
- You will then see classic WordPress editor, which is the page for used to add content to pages or edit the content that is already on pages. (Some newer themes will have the option to use other editors – Divi, Enfold, etc).
- Press the toggle icon in the top row of icons to make sure that a second row of icons is displaying.
- Adding text:
- When copying and pasting text, whether it be from a Word document, Google docs, document, or another website, make sure you’re in the Text editor (right tab in the top-right corner) or use the Paste as Text icon. When you’re copying and pasting text from another source, it will often bring over additional formatting and code, which will cause your site to look inconsistent.
- Adding headings and subheadings:
- Adding headings and subheadings is a good practice that makes your content easier to read.
- Major headings are typically a size 2 heading (Heading 2). This is because your page title is usually a Heading 1, and you want your page to have a hierarchy of headings, excellent for search engine optimization.
- Subheadings are typically Heading 3 and 4.
- Try not to use headings solely to style your font. Headings are for hierarchical organization of your content. If you want your headings or font to look different, use other options, like bold or italic, or contact us about implementing some custom code on your site.
- Formatting elements:
- Bold
- Iitalicize
- Bulleted lists and numbered lists
- Block quotes
- Alignment
- Links:
- Select the text that you want linked.
- Select the chain/link icon.
- Open up the link options area.
- Enter in the URL that you want to link to.
- Another option you want to make sure to be looking for is opening the link in a new tab. If the link is going to an external site or opening a document, like a PDF, you want it to open in a new tab.
- Add the link.
- If you want to edit this link for any reason, click on it and then click the edit icon.
- Add Media:
- With the Add Media button, you can insert media from a URL, images, polls, videos from Ustream or Vimeo or YouTube, or Vimeo, Google Maps, a Google Calendar, a Google Slides presentation; Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter feeds; publications lists, staff lists, and more.
- Images:
- Upload or find the image you want to use in your Media Library.
- Select it.
- Select the alignment and the size of the image you want to insert. Typically, you’ll want a full-sized image for a large, centered image, or medium for a left- or right-justified image.
- Once inserted, you can also move images.
- Members-Only (not available on all sites) – inserts an area on your page that has content that is protected only to members that are signed into your site with their account.
- Add Slider (not available on all sites) – adds different sliders that you’ve created to your page.
- Add Form – adds a form to your page.
As always, if you have any questions, please submit a support ticket from your website or email us at support@worshiptimes.org.
